My art is a product of my creativity. I am captivated by the leather and

beadwork of Alaska's indigenous peoples. I find peace in doing hand sewing,

whether it's with leather or beads. It connects me to the craftsmen and

women through the ages, as well as around the world.

I am also a collector of bones, teeth, stones, feathers, and small artifacts.

The fetish necklaces became an obvious way to combine my interests and collections.

I remember my first visit to Alaska and my desire to capture the essence of my adventures. I returned

with a piece of moose antler and a quarter of smoke-tanned moose hide. It captured the wildness of the

vast land and also provided months of sewing projects.

I try to put that same respect and love of Alaska in each piece I create with my Alaska artifacts. I want

to offer tokens of adventure that keep the Alaska experience alive.

Each of my creations is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. I might do several pieces with the same theme,

but no two necklaces, purses, jackets, or mitts are exactly alike.

Lately I've been working with tanned Alaska salmon skin. I've been using it in necklaces and purses. I try

to incorporate actual fishing swivels, lures and sinkers, as well as antique glass beads that look like salmon

eggs. These little beaded fetish bag necklaces pay tribute to our amazing salmon,  around which Alaskan

life evolves.

Although I enjoy working on actual coats and mukluks they can take months to complete. The smaller

pieces better fit my schedule which revolves around Jon, the dogs, home, garden, and our business and

travel needs.

I always have many ideas and projects brewing, so stay in touch to see what is next...
