ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Norton Sound Health Corporation. (NSHC) is soliciting qualifications from artists to commission three pieces of art for the Nome replacement hospital project. Qualifications may consist of photographs of previous work, or any other two dimensional material which accurately illustrates the artist's style, including preferred mediums.

This story will describe the
adaptations of desert animals
for survival in extreme heat.

2011 Schedule...
• Saturday Feb 19th - Van Zyle's host UAA's Dog Mushing 101 class at their home and kennel with instructors Bernie & Jeanette Willis.
• Saturday Feb 26th - Artic Rose Gallery will host DeeDee Jonrowe. Jon & Jona Van Zyle will also be on hand to support DeeDee with their artwork.
• Feb 26th & 27th Jr. Iditarod weekend. Jon & Jona support their race with artwork and an appearance at the sunday banquet and auction.
• Tuesday March 1st the Van Zyles host the Iditarod Teacher on the Trail conference at their home and kennel.
• Thursday March 3rd the Van Zyle's host the new Iditarod sponsor, Eagle Pack Pet Foods, at their home & studio.
• Thursday March 3rd evening, Iditarod bib draw banquet. Downtown Anchorage.
• Friday March 4th Iditarod Art Show opens at Artic Rose Gallery in Anchorage. Ph 907 279-3911 for more information.

• Sunday March 6th - Iditarod re-start Willow - Town Square Gallery art show appearance at their booth in the Willow Community Center.

• The Van Zyles will also be hosting the Habitat for Humanity summer builds throughout the summer with monthly dinners and open-house tours.

• University of Alaska Press is re-publishing the popular childrens book "Raven & River" by Nancy White Carlstrom. Jon has painted a brand new cover for this book. Please see original paintings link for this new image.
• Jon & Jona and a select group of old time Iditarod officials and mushers are writing and composing photographs, artwork, true stories and the inside never told before history of the first 10 years of the Iditarod sled dog race.
